Our mission

Canadian infrastructure should be
easy for Canadians to find.

Canada already has the companies. What it lacks is a way for a Canadian business to find them, compare them honestly against what they're already paying for, and switch without guesswork.

The problem

If you run a business in Canada, almost every default in your stack is American. Not because someone decided that, but because the American options are the ones you find. They rank first, they’re what the tutorial used, and they’re what the last developer set up.

Meanwhile there are Canadian companies doing the same work — domains, DNS, hosting, storage, email, AI — that most of their potential customers will never encounter. That’s not a market failure anyone chose. It’s a discovery failure, and discovery failures are fixable.

What we built

The Canadian Tech Alternatives Directory is a public map of Canadian technology companies: what each one offers, which American service it stands in for, and what it costs. It currently covers 15 companies across 11 categories, mapped against 52 American services.

It’s organized the way people actually search — from the product you already pay for. You can start from what you use and work backwards to the Canadian option.

What we won't do

We won’t sell placement. No listing fee, no revenue share, no sponsored positions, no advertising. Order in the directory carries no endorsement and never will.

We won’t invent numbers. Every figure here is a claim about a real company. We publish pricing only when we can cite the page it came from and the date we read it — everything else says not yet verified rather than filling the cell with an estimate. That’s a slower directory and a more useful one.

We won’t oversell a switch. Where a Canadian option genuinely doesn’t do everything the American one does, the profile says so. A substitution that quietly drops a capability you depend on isn’t a saving.

We won’t rank or rate. No stars, no scores, no “best of”. Only facts you can check: Canadian owned, Canadian hosted, where they operate, what they do.

Why it's free

Free to browse and free to be listed, on both sides. A directory that charges companies to appear stops being a map and becomes an ad, and an ad is worth nothing to the person trying to make a decision.

We’re seeking public innovation funding to expand this work. Nothing on this site depends on that funding arriving — the directory exists now, and it stays free either way.

Where this goes

More companies, better-verified data, and pricing that’s actually filled in. The near-term work is unglamorous: contacting each listed company, checking the profile we drafted, and getting figures we can stand behind.

If you run a Canadian technology company, the fastest way to help is to get listed. If you use one that isn’t here, tell us — the gaps are as useful to know as the matches.

Find the Canadian company that does the same job, and see honestly where it fits and where it doesn't.
